On some day back in October, the defendant Michael M. Sullivan was charged with toll evasion in the first degree: $115 fine. The officer states the defendant did not have money to pay the toll, and left after being instructed to wait on the side of the highway for a police officer.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I was instructed to wait on the side of the road; HOWEVER, I was never told who to wait for, or how long to wait. I pulled over to the side of the roads (just before the I95 on ramp), and waited for ten (10) minutes. After no signs of anyone coming, I drove off, assuming the attendant was cutting me a break. His demeanor was not serious, and he very lazily said, "Wait over there."

The judge confirmed I waited 10 minutes (by asking me), and then asks the Delaware River Port Authority Officer how long it takes for these investigations to take place. His response: "Well, it depends on the times of day. He was probably coming through the toll during rush hour... yes, 6:00am ... well at that time of day it really depends."

After scribing something on paper, the judge looked up and said, "You are free to go." My $115 dollar fine, and $31 late fee, were all waived and I left court without paying anyhting. Court scheduled for 9:00am, I was out by 10:00 am.

Hopefully this is the first and last episode of Law & Order: STC.
